Oslo Attacks are NOT Terrorism

I ASSURE YOU ALL. THESE ARE NOT TERRORIST ATTACKS. THE BOMBERS AND SHOOTERS WERE OF “NORWEGIAN ORIGIN” WHICH MEANS THEY WERE DEFINITELY NOT TERRORISTS. ONCE AGAIN, IF YOU DID NOT HEAR, THESE FOLKS ARE WHITE. WHICH MEANS THEY’RE NOT TERRORISTS. THANK YOU- WORLD WIDE MEDIA.

(author’s note: for the non-regular BcB readers, this post is intended to be sarcastic nonsense. The Oslo attacks are terrorism. No question about it.)

  1. Terrorists can be the same race and nationality as the victims. Terrorism is defined as: –noun
    1.
the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.
    2.
the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
    3.
a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.

The attacks in Oslo and Utoya WERE Terrorism. Terrorists can be white, you racist! What, you think because “Muslims” didn’t attack Americans it can’t possibly terrorism? Terrorism is using TERROR to make a political statement, which is what the bomber and gunman did.

  2. I’m not sure if you intend this to be reassurance in some way, but you should be careful how you use the word “terrorism”.

“terrorism = noun, the systematic and organized use of violence and intimidation to force a government or community, etc to act in a certain way or accept certain demands.” Chambers Dictionary

Nowhere in that definition does it say the perpetrator must be foreign. Anyone who perpetrates violence with an agenda is a terrorist.

Besides, how is the death of nearly a hundred people any less horrific for having been caused by a Norwegian?

Please have a long think about the prejudices behind this post.

  3. Sorry all. This post was meant to be sarcastic and a commentary how American media considers terrorism to only be associated with Al Qaeda and Muslim extremists. Terrorism is any form of terror created by anyone, anywhere.

    • Oh, okay. A lot of people are hurting right now and in shock, so people get upset and on the internet it is almost impossible to know when someone is being sarcastic. You see, if Stephen Colbert does something similar on his show, it will be obvious he is joking from his facial expressions and the fact that his entire show is mocking media stupidity, but people coming across your blog might just get offended. If someone in Norway had written something dumb about 9-11 for instance (even if they meant it to be sarcastic and a comment about stupid media reporting) can you imagine the reaction. Yes, the media can be incredibly stupid but the sad part is enough people *already* think that terrorism has to be associated with Al Qaeda and Muslim extremists. But thank you for explaining, it makes me feel better to know that one person, at least, is not as ignorant as I previously thought. Btw, you might want to put a big disclaimer in this blog entry. 🙂

  4. I just saw you put a disclaimer (I posted before reading). I wanted to thank you right away for explaining and suggest the disclaimer before anything else, but I see you did that. Have a good day.

  5. It’s not terrorism – not because the perpetrator is white, but because it’s not systematic. It’s a terrible massacre but it’s not a systematic campaign, by a person or group. A one-off event cannot be construed as terrorism in any meaningful way.
