The NY Times has a great photo slideshow on single mothers raising their kids in Seoul, South Korea. According to the Times:
Each year, social pressure drives thousands of unmarried mothers to choose between abortion, which is illegal but rampant, and adoption, which is considered socially shameful but is encouraged by the government. The few women who decide to raise their child risk a life of poverty and disgrace. Choi Hyong-sook’s family refused to talk to her until April last year.
