Tonight, fan favorite Chan Sung Jung — aka ‘The Korean Zombie’ — will be facing off against Dustin Poirier for the chance to challenge current featherweight champion José Aldo.

BCB will be live tweeting the event (#KoreanZombie) with observations on the skill, prowess, and pleasing homoeroticism of the fight. Since Cbruhs is only equipped to comment on the latter, she will be assisted by MMA aficionado Louie Gong with remarks that actually relate to the sport. Holla back at us @Bicoastalbitchn!

And although the plethora of versions (and legal battles) of the popular ‘Korean Zombie’ t-shirt could make your head spin, the Korean Zombie himself recommends you get one here.

First fights start at 8 pm EDT/5 pm PST on Fuel TV 3.

Thanks Ben and Louie!

Ben Henderson New UFC Lightweight Champ

Even if you don’t particularly care for fighting or start squealing at the sight of blood, who doesn’t appreciate a couple of ripped tough guys flexin and wrasslin around and kicking at each other! Hence the beauty and widespread appeal of MMA. One of my favorite fighters to watch is Washington state’s own Benson “Smooth” Henderson, who is as fooyynne as he is talented in combat.

Challenging lightweight champion Frankie Edgar for the title on Saturday, the two battled it out for all five rounds, with Ben inflicting plenty of damage while his own mug stayed so fresh and so clean.

After five rounds, Ben Henderson was declared the new UFC lightweight champion of the world by unanimous decision. Then he went to go hug his mom, Song — as I squeee’d and submitted my application for president of the Benson Henderson Fan Club, South King County Chapter.

Cung Le UFC Fight this Saturday

Posted in DANGER!, Happenins, HAWTNESS with tags , , , , on November 18, 2011 by Cbruhs

This Saturday, rising MMA star, actor, and San Jose native Cung Le will be playing his first UFC game, against Wanderlei Silva. I’m told this is a big deal. Like many other casual followers of the sport, I mostly enjoy the the finer aspects of MMA, like giggling and clutching my pearls when the fighters roll around and grapple with each other in a hot, sweaty, muscley mess. It’s so…sensual. Yes? Am I right? Guys? Yes?

Le is a former Sanshou champion (Chinese hand-to-hand combat), and is so badass he once broke a dude’s ARM with a kick. Plus, THAT HAIR. Swoon. So add some hot stuff to your weekend and feel your Asian, uh, pride swell when Cung kicks his opponent in the head.

Thanks Lou!

Don’t Mess with a KA (esp if you’re a 백인 남자애)

Seriously, who in their right mind would get drunk, start picking on a random dude on the street (who ends up being a Korean American/Mixed Martial Arts enthusiast) and then FOLLOW him back to his apartment to continue the fight? Not only does the drunk behgin namja eh get his ass handed to him, the KA is a lawyer. NOTE: contrary to the stereotype (and this example), not all Asian dudes are lawyers (only 80% of my AA friends are) and know martial arts (wouldn’t you AVOID AA dudes if you’re racist and believe in this stereotype? Just in Case?).

According to the YouTube info description:

Some crazy drunk guy attacked me on Wall Street late at night. He threw a punch at me so I punched him down to the ground in self defense. He followed me back to my building and attacked me again inside, which is caught on tape. I used BJJ to neutralize him until the police came. There are about 6 seconds missing due to the apartment building’s crappy copying where I ground and pounded him. Very bloody, but you can’t see it from the video. Big shout out to Anderson’s Martial Arts Academy in NYC where I train! Compared to my training partners, this guy was easy pickins’. FYI, I’m 5’6” 180 lbs and this guy was like 6 foot and 210 lbs. In addition to being an MMA enthusiast, I’m also an attorney. Bad luck for him.
